A platform for dogs to connect
Led the conception and development of a comprehensive mobile app and e-commerce platform to facilitate social connections between dogs and enable owners to purchase products catered to their dogs' needs. As product manager, my responsibilities included:
• Defining product vision based on market research and owner/dog pain points
• Conducting user research through in-depth interviews with 30+ dog owners and vendors
• Creating a product roadmap prioritizing features to maximize engagement and retention
• Managing a cross-functional team of 4 engineers, 2 designers and 1 marketing specialist
• Developing key metrics to measure success and regularly evaluating product-market fit
The overarching goal was to build a one-stop platform that could meet all of a dog owner's needs related to their pet, while also providing dogs with opportunities for socialization and enrichment through connections with other canine users.
After conducting user interviews and surveys with both dog owners and providers of dog-related products/services, I found the key requirements were:
• An easy-to-use app interface for dog owners
• An e-commerce platform for vendors to sell products
• Features to enable dogs to connect and set up play dates
Based on this research, I designed:
A simple sign up and profile creation process for both owners and dogs
An efficient search and filter options to match dogs based on breed, age and location
Detailed dog profiles showing photos, personalities and availability
An e-commerce platform for vendors to create storefronts and list products for dogs
After launching the MVP, we:
Added a messaging feature for owners to arrange play dates
Integrated the e-commerce platform with the app to show relevant products to owners
Improved app stability and performance based on user feedback
The project used:
React Native for the app frontend
Node.js, Express and Mongoose for the API backend
Stripe for payment processing
Firebase for owner & dog profiles
Heroku for hosting the API
